Summary:
A dimensional measurement system designed for today's busy shop applications. The RAM Onyx is designed to provide automatic, full-featured video measurement to value-conscious customers.
RAM Onyx continues the company's Inspection Made Simple theme. Featuring a bridge-column design for dimensional measurement accuracy, this benchtop system's 9 x 9x 6 XYZ range accommodates a variety of parts while using a minimum amount of valuable shop space. It features half-micron linear scales and servo-driven stages for high-speed throughput.
RAM Onyx optical system combines flat field parfocal zoom optics with a high-resolution color video camera. The imaging system features Charged-Couple Device technology for sensitivity, dynamic range, anti-blooming and low noise. Programmable illumination sources ensure image quality of complicated parts.
RAM Onyx is powered by QVI electronics with DSP technology. Its Basic-X Measurement Software features an array of measurement tools, AutoFocus, intelligent edge detection, user-friendly icons and a point-and-click interface to create detailed measurement routines.
RAM Optical Instrumentation, Inc. has been a leading provider of optical measurement systems and solutions to manufacturing companies worldwide since 1981.
Optical Comparator vs. Dimensional Measurement Aystem
Since their development in the early twentieth century, optical comparators have provided many manufacturing facilities with a method for performing dimensional inspections. However, the technology used in an optical comparator can be limiting in today's manufacturing environment where accuracy and efficiency are key. Modern advances in measurement technology, such as those found in the IM series optical measurement system, provide several critical performance advantages directly tailored to modern quality control methodologies.
Optical Comparator Technology
Measurements Vulnerable to User Variation
As all edge extraction and stage positioning is done manually with the human eye, measurement reproducibility is highly dependent on operator judgment and interpretation.
Multi Feature Measurement is Time Consuming
An optical comparator requires the stage to be manually repositioned for each edge extraction. Each new feature adds significant additional time to the inspection process.
Correct Use Requires Extensive Training
With an optical comparator, proper use requires extensive practice and training. Without this training user variation is greatly increased.
All Data Must be Entered Manually
As most optical comparators have extremely limited computer support; data entry and feature dimension calculations are time consuming and prone to operator error. GD&T values such as circularity or straightness are almost impossible to extract.
IM Series Technology
No User Variation in Inspections
As all point extractions are performed digitally using a high resolution CMOS imager, all values are independent of user influence. Any operator can execute the same recipe file and get the same results.
All Measurements are Obtained Instantly
The IM series extracts all dimensions simultaneously. Due to the extensive image processing support in the task dedicated controller, up to 99 measurements can be extracted in a few seconds.
Simple Pushbutton Operation
The IM is designed from the ground up for ease of use. An operator only has to place a part on the stage and press the measure button. The system will automatically locate the part in the field of view and execute all preprogrammed inspections with no further user intervention necessary.
Automatic Data Processing
All data gathered by the IM system can be automatically saved to a network location or on the system itself. All data for a particular part, even from multiple IM units, can be easily sorted and analyzed using the free PC based Statistical Analysis package included with each system.
