TORREY PINES SCIENTIFIC ECHOTHERM IC20 DIGITAL, ELECTRONIC CHILLING/HEATING DRY BATH, -20C TO 110C. IC20 series shown above has a tactile touch membrane keyboard.

With audible feedback. The keyboard is used to set all operating parameters. The completely solid-state EchoTherm IC20 Digital Electronic Chilling/Heating Dry Bath is compact, versatile, reliable and easy to use. The chilling/heating surface is a 2.875 (7.3 cm) x 4.375 (11.1 cm) aluminum plate that is very flat for optimal contact with your sample. When unloaded, the plate surface will reach below 0C in under two minutes. It will also heat to 37C in approximately 3 minutes. This rate of chilling or heating may vary with the load on the plate. For instance, temperatures down to 4.0C can be reached on a solid aluminum block as large as 4 (10.2 cm) x 3 (7.6 cm) x 6 (15.2 cm) in less than one hour. When insulated, these large blocks can be driven below 0C. Temperature gradients from the center to the edge of any aluminum block mentioned will be less than 0.5C at any temperature.

The display is a two-line alphanumeric LCD with backlighting. When the unit is turned on the display will light and show the Set Point and Plate Temp. Plate temperature will be displaying the actual temperature of the plate surface. There are two LEDs on the front panel. One is a power-on indicator, and the other is the plate surface hot indicator that will illuminate when the plate is at or above 50C. The rear panel shown has the on/off power switch at the left, the 12-volt dc power input jack in the middle, the DB9 connector for the RS232 I/O port is on the right. Although the units can be set to -10C (-20 on XTs), they can only go 30C (40C on XTs) below ambient. What that means is that the units may not reach -10C (-20C on XTs) if the ambient temperature is 25C. Also, the power available to heat and chill the plate and samples on it is 50 watts for the IC20 and 100 watts.
