KTA explorer is a fully automated liquid chromatography system designed for method development and research applications. The system simplifies the transition from laboratory to full scale production. Scale-up to production is predictable and trouble-free.
KTA explorer chromotography systems are designed for fast development and optimization of any biomolecular purification, using one working platform for all techniques and samples. The method wizard and optimized system configurations, allow rapid media screening, method scouting, method optimization, and scale-up experiments.
Standard system configurations are available to suit most purification needs, but are easily modified if required. Systems can be used at flow rates up to 100 ml/min (pressure 10 MPa) to ensure minimized run times at maximum flow rates or at 10 ml/min (pressure 25 MPa) for applications routinely using columns that generate higher backpressures. Preparation times are minimized while accuracy and reproducibility of results are assured.

P-900 Pump
The P-900 series pumps have been designed to meet the needs of all chromatographers working with biomolecules. The pump design has been developed to overcome many of the problems associated with traditional high performance pumping systems.

Monitor UV-900 is not only an integral component of KTAdesign chromatography systems, but is also an excellent standalone multi-wavelength detector. The application of fiber technology to the design of the flow cell means that focused light is continually reflected back into the flow path. The cell features a long path length while retaining a small volume and a design that prevents formation of lens-shaped interfaces between eluant components of different refractive indexes. Fiber optics allow the flow cell to be placed close to the column outlet. These innovations increase signal-to-noise ratio, while decreasing band broadening, noise, and thermal drift. The result is a very sensitive, stable, and reliable UV/visible detector
pH/C-900Online pH conductivity monitor
Monitor pH/C-900 is a combined unit for accurate, on-line monitoring of pH and conductivity in a wide range of liquid chromatography applications.
Measures pH and conductivity simultaneously (temperature-compensated).
Complements UV monitoring by providing true elution conditions.
Extremely useful for optimizing gradients, monitoring reproducibility over several runs, and ensuring the quality of samples, buffers, and data from other instruments.
Wide dynamic range from 0-14 pH units and 1 S/cm to 999.9 mS/cm eliminates range settings. Highly suitable for applications ranging from low conductivity reversed phase to high salt separations.
High-performance flow cells handle flow rates up to 100 ml/min.
Monitor pH/C-900 precisely measures the elution conditions of chromatographic separations, either as a component of KTAdesign systems or as a standalone instrument. It displays pH, conductivity, and temperature. Since temperature can influence both pH and conductivity, the monitor compensates for temperature variations of these readings. Self-diagnostics ensure continual reliability and reproducibility. Both the pH and the conductivity/temperature flow cells feature low cell volume and high linearity for accurate measurements.
P-960 Sample Pump
The Pump P960 is pump to apply samples directly on the column and/or to fill sample loops, including Superloop. Pumping action is provided by plungers driven by a stepper motor. The pump is a low pulsation pump and features a motor speed independent of temperature and load to give accurate and reproducible flow rates up to 50 ml/min at a pressure up to 2 MPa. An IV/PV908 valve can be used as sample valve in combination with the sample pump. It is a motorized 8-way valve used for automatic sample application of up to 8 samples.
M-925 Mixer
M-925 mixer is designed for high performance liquid chromatography.
It is a dynamic single chamber mixer powered and controlled by Pumps P-901, P-903, and P-920. Interchangeable mixing chambers are available to encompass the entire flow ranges of these pumps. The Amersham M-925 is an integral component of classic KTA chromatography systems.

Valve INV-907H is a motorized rotary 7port valve. The valve is used in KTAdesign systems. It is powered by the KTA design P-900 series system pump, and is controlled from a UNICORN control system.

Valve PV-908 is a column valve or outlet valve for classic AKTA systems, can operate up to 250 bar (25MPa, 3625 psi) and are used on the high pressure side in a system, <100mL/min flow rate, 0.8mm flow channel ID, controlled via Unicorn.

Valve IV-908 is a motorized rotary 8-way valve use to switch between sample and buffer solutions, and for use in switching between columns in the AKTA system.
CU-950 Controller
CU-950 is the general system unit that manages the control of almost all KTAdesign systems. The controller is a real-time processing unit that executes the methods made in UNICORN as well as manual system interactions
Frac-950 Fraction Collector
The Frac-950 is an automated fraction collector for use with AKTA design chromatography systems running Unicorn software. Equipped with an accumulator, the Frac-950 eliminates spillage at high flows. Up to 392 fractions can be collected at once for time or volume base, fixed volume and/or peak fractionation, fixed capillary tip with moving rack, fixed rack with moving capillary tip, or fractionation order (row-by-row, column-by-column, serpentine-row, serpentine-column). Flexible fraction collection from 96-well microplates plates to 250mL bottles or funnels connected to any vessel, fixed volume fractionation or automatic peak fractionation is possible, 0.001-100mL/min flow rate.
