Luminex platform: quantitative protein and RNA assays with superior throughput
The Luminex platform is a powerful combination of Luminex xMAP instruments and multiplex assays for RNA and protein detection and measurement. Luminex multiplex assays use xMAP bead-based technology to simultaneously detect and quantitate multiple secreted proteins including cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors using Procarta Plex assays. This multiplex technology can also be used to measure gene expression utilizing the Invitrogen Quanti Gene Plex assays. The Luminex system produces results comparable to conventional assays such as ELISA and qPCR but with greater efficiency and throughput. Gain valuable insights about gene expression and protein pathways by measuring more data points from a single sample. Employ the power of multiplexing protein- and gene-level measurements on a single Luminex platform. Preconfigured or custom 96- to high-throughput 384-well assays address your most valuable targets.
The Luminex 200 Instrument System sets the standard for multiplexing, providing the ability to perform up to 100 different tests in a single reaction volume on a flow cytometry-based platform. The Luminex 200 system is compatible with ProcartaPlex multiplex immunoassays and QuantiGene Plex multiplex gene expression assays.
Features of the Luminex MAGPIX system include:
Multiplexing: up to 80 analytes per sample using magnetic microspheres
Dynamic range (typical): 3.5 logs
Read time: 96-well plate in 45 min (up to 12,800 tests/hour)
Daily start-up/shut-down: 30 min
Luminex xMAP technology
The open architecture of Luminex xMAP technology uses imaging, microspheres, digital signal processing, and traditional chemistry combining proven technologies in a unique way.
Advantages of Luminex xMAP technology include:
Helps reduce costs and labor through multiplexing
Smaller sample size requirements compared to single result assays
Enables fast, reproducible results from favorable kinetics of liquid bead array approach
Broad coverage of applications, including protein expression and gene expression profiling
How Luminex xMAP technology works
Sets of magnetic microspheres are color-coded with combinations of red and infrared fluorophores. Each bead set is coated with a reagent specific to a particular bioassay, allowing the capture and detection of several specific analytes from a single sample. Optics in the compact analyzer excite the internal dyes that identify each microsphere as well as any reporter dye captured, providing quantitation of individual analytes on each microsphere. The analyzer reads many beads from each set, enabling rapid and precise results for several targets within a single sample.
